There's a roar of excitement in White River these days, and it's not just the summer heat! Construction is well underway for the brand-new White River Elementary School addition. The site is a den of activity with workers putting the building blocks in place for a state-of-the-art learning environment.

The new addition will replace the former North Elementary and "Cold Hallway" sections on the White River campus. These two areas were overwhelmingly flagged as being the least desirable places on campus by both the community and school staff members through surveys. The demolition is well underway and new construction will begin soon. The new elementary addition will boast 10 new classrooms (compared to just 3 in the original N. Elementary), a new teacher workroom, state-of-the-art bathrooms, and office space for other miscellaneous services provided by the district.

The need for a new elementary school arose from the master planning process that started well over a year ago. The White River School District has partnered with CO-OP Architecture and Jans Corporation both out of Sioux Falls to make this long overdue project come to life.

The new Elementary School is expected to open its doors in August 2025. It's a project that promises not only a new building but a bright future for the education of the district's youngest learners.
