On April 9, 2024, voters in the Colome Consolidated School District approved a district reorganization plan that will see the communities and land base of Wood and Witten split from the district.

The plan calls for the split of the Wood and Witten areas between Mellette County and Tripp County to the White River and Winner School Districts. The Mellette County area of the current Colome Consolidated School District will join the White River School District. This will have a major impact on the funding for White River School District. It is anticipated that the White River School District will see an increase of roughly $128,000 in capital outlay and $127,000 in special education funding annually.

With the approval of the plan, the Colome School District is expected to lose about half of its geographic size and about 33 percent of its assessed taxable value.

On May 8, the SD Department of Education officially approved the reorganization plan. The plan will take effect on July 1, 2024.ccsdwrsd
