In Mr. Brooks' Geometry class they worked on process strips. The lesson was Algebraic Reasoning getting the students ready for two column proofs. Mr. Brooks took a couple of algebra equations and cut them up in to strips and mixed them up. He had students get into groups of two and place the strips in the correct order.
To Mr. Brooks' surprise about half the groups did not have the strips in the correct order. He guessed it might be harder to follow someone else’s logic than if they just solved them them on their own. Mr. Brooks really enjoyed watching them learn how to understand the how and why of solving algebraic equations.
Later in the lesson they started working with two column proofs. This activity was perfect intro to that.
